3 Powerful Ways to Rewire Trauma

Rewire trauma sustained during
the relationship that wasn’t.
Bring up stored deep brain patterns of feeling good.

Rewire trauma sustained during what we thought was a real relationship. During these hijackings, trauma is sustained and prolonged. We undergo an overload on our nervous and adrenal systems.

Simple methods bring us from the dark side and into the healing zone. Humans are amazing. We can rewire our emotional experience for both health and well-being.

Our Emotions, Thoughts, and Perspective Have Healing Power

Ever seen an image of a yogi or witnessed a friend turn their body into an impossible pretzel shape?

Our bodies are flexible, and those people trained their bodies to stretch, bend, and fold into shapes and spaces that benefit their overall health and well-being. – Think of our minds the same way.

We have unexpected flexibility of perception and awareness that can benefit our health, happiness, and healing, it’s called neuroplasticity

Why did it happen?
Find answers.

We’re Flexible: Our Trauma is Not Permanent

Rewire our brain and get synapses firing a specific signal: safety. It’s proven scientifically and more than that – felt immediately – I don’t know about you guys, but that’s always enough proof for me.

Rewire Trauma in the Brain and Nervous System

I’d give an example of my morning pages, except they’re 100% illegible, even to me. They’re about rainbows and donuts a lot of the time.

Here are three things that stir up in the amygdala feelings that transform and fortify us from right where we are within the sad of recovery. We summon emotions with these three easy yet profoundly powerful activities that cause us to remember who we are, sensing once again our own true strength, courage, and beauty. Our entire brain gets in on healing our trauma.

Bring out emotions of security and confidence; bring out the “self” we thought we lost. Without a doubt, we are not lost!! Call out that kernel of purity, true self, and happiness.

Breaking Up with Evil: Escaping Coercive Control on Amazon

Five women’s true stories of being ensnared hauled through the confusion, lies, fear, and pain, and breaking away.

Told in their own words, they leave nothing unsaid. Find validation and see new glimpses of the truth as they share their stories… Stories that could be any of ours.

Rewire Trauma: Listen to Music

Music, the universal language touches deep parts of the brain and psyche. Select music that causes our joi-de-vivre to soar! Our spirits rise. Music is a tuning fork that brings out the happiness and the awe we feel for ourselves. Be sure not to play any music that recalls you-know-who.

Rewire trauma with music: “Listening to music is one of the most effective ways to alter your mood and perceptions of a situation. …Make a playlist of songs that reinforce character traits that are linked to being confident, upbeat, and optimistic. This will get regions of your brain firing in sync to make this mindset a reality. …Your brain will begin to become rewired.” ~ Christopher Bergland, March 28, 2012, psychologytoday.com

Rewire Trauma: Brain Shift

Here are two favorite writing exercises that help us see ourselves again, and put things back where they belong in our hearts, minds, and souls: word clusters, and morning pages.

Word Streams Unleash Creativity

Word streams or word clusters magically bring us back to ourselves. They inspire renewed self-admiration, stir creativity and we get to see our gorgeous selves laid out before us as if for the first time.

Word clusters are done as follows: Take a blank piece of paper. In the center write a word or two such as Yellow. Or, I Dream of. Or, Yesterday. Something like Butterfly. It could be, I want.

First, choose your word. Next, write a free association of words inspired by that word. After a bit of scribbling, at a certain point, a sudden shift will happen. Let yourself go with it, write whatever comes out. You might spill out a whole poem, a short story. You could effortlessly whip out a chapter for your new novel!

Morning Pages Dump Mind Clutter

Morning pages are an exercise found in The Artist’s Way as a method to unblock and repair. Before going to sleep leave some paper and a pen nearby. When we open our eyes in the morning, reach out for that paper, grab that pen or pencil, and write! Three pages are a good amount to brush away the cobwebs and shift our subconscious wishes into action.

Write whatever comes out. Disjointed, and nonsensical is more than fine, it’s what our brains do, let it go. Your flow might go something like this: giraffes under umbrellas at the crack of dawn had dinner on rainbows and cookie plates before everybody came to see the car show.

Write without concern for punctuation, spelling, or penmanship, just let it flow. You can even mime the writing tool and do it with bare fingers. If you’re too sleepy do it with your eyes closed!

Without concern for punctuation, spelling, or penmanship, just let it flow. The motion of cursive writing and the activity going on in our brain allows the stream of consciousness outpouring of whatever is bunched up in there. This makes a shift and leaves a wide open space for clarity and spontaneous positive action.

Rewire Trauma by Coloring

Color. Relax, and de-stress in a way that harkens back to childhood. Float away in the flow. Yes. Freestyle or in coloring books.  They make amazing coloring books for adults now with butterflies and fairies, wildlife and dolphins; mushrooms and elves hiding in wooded glens, and glorious turreted castles.

Rewire trauma by waking up emotional memories from when life was simple, from moments we were “in flow” that make us feel good.

Get a new set of colored pencils or crayons; remember that smell of those magic Crayola crayons? Those crayons and some watercolors and a smock make a really cool mind-easing Saturday afternoon, maybe doing wax-resist paintings, remember those?

Rewire Trauma for Happiness and Joy

Happiness is to be found within your own life, in your thoughts at this very moment. You yourself are most noble and precious. ~ Daisaku Ikeda

Recover, rebuild in every way. Mind, body, and soul. Rewire trauma, find out the truth of the motivations behind these nightmares so we can recognize the signs and side-step any approaching future fakers.

Take care of ourselves; rebuild health. Rediscover the things that were set aside in the whirlwind. Rebuild joy! Color, write, and listen to music. We want to stimulate what is called the vagus nerve in our bodies. This is done by singing, humming, laughing, and therapeutic yoga such as restorative yoga. Skip, play hopscotch, ride a bike. Go for a swing in a park.
